CFD analyses of the main burner of a sulphur recovery unit

Dacolt has realised various CFD analyses for Duiker, the leading Dutch manufacturer of main burners for sulphur recovery units.

Amongst others, a comparison has been made between two combustion models in ANSYS® FLUENT®:

  • Default FLUENT non-premixed equilibrium model
  • Dacolt PSR+PDF model

The CFD methodology used is as follows:

  • Steady-state, two stream, adiabatic CFD model
  • Dacolt PSR+PDF combustion model for chemical kinetics and turbulence / chemistry interaction
  • A detailed reaction mechanism (50+ species) is used to generate the look-up table required for Dacolt PSR+PDF, using Tabkin®.
