Assessment of gas composition effects in a furnace for ArcelorMittal Gent

Dacolt has performed a series of simulations to investigate gas composition effects on flame length in an industrial furnace. The simulations have been realized for ArcelorMittal Gent, in collaboration with Actiflow. The simulation results have supported the feasibility assessment of using a lower calorific gas in the furnace.

The simulations from Dacolt were run with the Dacolt PSR+PDF combustion model in ANSYS® FLUENT®. Detailed kinetic effects were efficiently captured by the chemistry tabulation methodology used in the Dacolt PSR+PDF model. The image below illustrates the flame length in the burner, distilled from the 3D CFD model results.
