Combustion in a Rocket Engine
Dacolt has realised parametric CFD analyses of a burner of the Vulcain 2 engine for Snecma.
Objectives
The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of geometric features on flame length, using a parametrised 2D CFD model.
Methodology
Only a single injector from the actual burner was investigated. The simulations were simplified by using a 2D axi-symmetric approach and were run in steady-state. This allowed performing a large number of simulations within a short period of time.
Operating Conditions
Appropriate operating conditions and boundary conditions for the liquid hydrogen and oxygen were supplied by Snecma.
Results
The results allowed identifying what the effect is of certain geometric features on the length of the flame, as illustrated in the image.
