CFD workflow for reactive flow simulations

A typical workflow for CFD simulations consists in the following steps:

  • Creation of the geometry, from paper drawings or CAD files
  • Preparation of the finite volumes mesh
  • Simulation setup: boundary and initial conditions, physical models etc
  • Simulation execution and monitoring
  • Data post-processing and analysis
  • Reporting

In the case of reacting flow simulations using advanced combustion models, the generation of CFD lookup tables forms an integral part of this process. Dacolt can perform such a complete workflow or parts of it for industrial CFD simulations.

Choosing the right tools

Most commercial CFD software packages come with their own pre-and post processing tools, but also have possibilities for importing and exporting in third-party formats. Dacolt is experienced in using the pre- and post-processing tools provided by ANSYS®, but also in software packages like Salomé, EnSight, VisIt, Paraview, Matlab, etc.

Dacolt also has good experience in automating parts of the CFD workflow, using advanced scripting methods for parametric mesh generation and/or simulation set-up. Automation is often required when performing parametric analyses or optimisation studies.
